Announcing the #CarryingCarrier Giveaway

carrier-book

At long last, the novel that found a home on cold, metal e-retail warehouse racks in 2014 has moved onto the cozy, wooden shelves of your local book store. Yes, it’s exciting, gratifying, satisfying, terrifying, but the one thing that’s undeniable is my little book is all grown up.

So, let’s party.

Over the next week, I’m going to hold a giveaway contest on Facebook and Twitter. Like, share/retweet, and use the hashtag #CarryingCarrier for an opportunity to win signed print copies of the new edition, a $20 Amazon gift card, and an Amazon Kindle Fire.

Sounds cool! How do I enter?

We’re going to do this on a points system. For each point, you increase your chances of winning. Here’s how to enter:

Because of privacy settings on social networks, I may not be able to see all shares. To ensure I register all of your entries, message me on my Facebook page or PM me on Twitter with how many entries you have. I’ll take your word for it, but if I find you’ve fibbed, you’re disqualified.

Wait, that last bullet. What?

Yes, see we’re celebrating Carrier in brick-and-mortar bookstores, so if you go to your local store; say, “Do you carry Carrier by Timothy Johnson?” (Okay, you don’t have to say it like that, but I have to work in the relevance of the contest name somehow.); and then post a picture of yourself with the book (no purchase necessary, but that would be cool, too) on Facebook and Twitter with #CarryingCarrier, you get 6 points on top of everything else for a total of 10 points.

Unfortunately, I'm exempt. :-(

What if they don’t have it? Did I drive all the way to the store for nothing?

I’m not a Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, or GRRM, so it’s possible your store doesn’t have any copies on their shelf. No worries, you can still enter this part of the contest. Instead of taking a picture of yourself holding a copy of the book (silliness optional), take a picture of yourself standing in front of the store’s customer service desk or register where you asked about Carrier (sad face not optional; in fact, sadder the better because maybe then they will order a few copies). Include an appropriate caption, such as, “They aren’t #CarryingCarrier, and that makes me sad.”

Okay, what can I win?

There will be seven winners:

  • Five participants will each receive a signed print copy of the new edition of Carrier.
  • One participant will receive a signed print copy of Carrier and a $20 Amazon gift card.
  • One grand prize winner will receive a signed print copy of Carrier, a $20 Amazon gift card, and an 8 GB, 7-inch Amazon Kindle Fire.*

*Kindle grand prize winner will only be awarded if we get 259 shares/retweets between Facebook and Twitter posts.

Why 259? That’s an odd number, and my OCD is kicking in.

Read the book.

(It occurs to me that, through this contest, not everyone landing here may know about Carrier. Click here for more about the book.)

When does this party end?

Monday, Oct. 31 at 8 pm. Happy Halloween! At that point, I’ll select the winners at random and notify everyone within 24 hours.

How will I get my goodies?

You provide a U.S. mailing address, and I’ll mail your stuff to you. Don’t worry. I’ve got the shipping, and I’ll be sure to handle everything before I ship it, too.

Right. I’m in.

Awesome. I’ve got stuff to give, and you’ve got nothing to lose. Get Tweetfacing, and I’ll see you on the other side.

Obligatory Legal Gobbledygook

Legal residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry are eligible. By participating, you agree to unconditional agreement to these rules. Subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Blah blah blah.

Winners must reply back within 48 hours of receiving notification. If a winner cannot be contacted, fails to reply to the notification within the required time period, or cannot take possession of the prizes within a timely fashion, the winner forfeits the prizes.

Prizes are nontransferable. A winner cannot have the prizes mailed to someone else.

In the event that a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, I will conduct a random drawing of all remaining eligible entries.

I reserve the right to cancel the contest/giveaway at any time. Use of any automated system to participate is prohibited and will result in disqualification. I’m not responsible for any errors on the part of the entrant, such as misspelling of email address, or inability to contact winner(s) or physical mailing address. The winner is responsible for any taxes and fees associated with the book(s) receipt and/or use.

By receipt of these books, the winner agrees to release and hold me harmless of this giveaway from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the giveaway or receipt or use or misuse of any prize.
